Who would have thought that kites would one day be used to take you across oceans, besides battling in the skies with other kites (during festivals). Yes it's true you can now surf the warm waters of the Arabian Gulf on a kiteboard and a kite capable of pulling your weight across the water. And with the weather on the 'fairer' side, there's no better time to get out and do it than now.

All you have to do is drive down to Nessnass Beach, behind Sunset Mall on Jumeirah Beach Road, and get in touch with the people at Kitesurfing Club Dubai. And you don't have to worry if you don't know how to kiteboard because the folks at the club promise to make you a competent kiteboarder in 10 hours.

As a beginner, you don't need any equipment because the club/school provides all you need. If safety is your concern, they will also provide you with a radio helmet which will keep you connected to the base camp.

For the uninitiated, kiteboarding is a sport that uses the power of the wind to pull you across the water while riding a small surfboard (kiteboard). Kiteboarding requires a certain amount of practice before attempting it on your own. But if you are motivated enough, you could become a pro in maybe a week, who knows!
